Fashion and art have always inspired each other. A particularly interest in the interaction between fashion and art seems to be right now. This growing interest is also reflected in the exhibition Papu meets art – Papu Design, Hanna-Riikka Heikkilä and Riihimäki Art Museum.

Papu Meets Art

The exhibition aims to reach the audience with a wide range of new, inspiring, and interesting entities at national level. Papu Design’s clothing and accessories are now exhibited for the first time in an exhibition that combines art and design.

The exhibition exhibits the clothes and accessories of Papu Design Oy and works of design designer and artist Hanna-Riikka Heikkilä (b. 1979). The exhibition is complemented by works from the collections of the Riihimäki Art Museum.

The aim of the exhibition is to showcase print design and art, as an inspiring and visually spectacular way. The exhibition showcases the current design, latest prints and clothes of Papu Design Oy.

One of the starting points of Papu Design Oy’s print is the art of Hanna-Riikka Heikkilä, the company’s print designer. Hanna-Riikka Heikkilä's art-based designs have been strongly involved from the beginning in Papu Design's collections, and her art is conveyed in an interesting and fresh way to clothes and accessories made of them. Heikkilä has been planning the designs for the company since its establishment in 2012. Heikkilä's works displayed in the exhibition are mainly acrylic paintings on MDF disc and canvas. Most of the works are new works completed for the exhibition.

The design of Papu Design combines innovatively and freshly fashion, art and design. The company has become known for the quality and responsible production of women's and kid's clothing, which is designed in Finland and made in the EU. The company’s products are sold in almost 30 countries via online stores as well as stone-foot stores and pop-up stores. Papu’s products are marketed with the words happiness and durability: “Sustainably produced materials with a sustainable style” and slogan: “PAPU – For lasting happiness".

The exhibition also features some works from the collections of the Riihimäki Art Museum. The collections of Riihimäki Art Museum consist of over 2,000 works, most of which are Finnish painting art at the beginning of the 20th century. The collections also include Asian antiques, icons from the 19th century and other entities such as Egyptian artifacts.
