Papu Design, True Colors

Papu’s SS23 collection’s fresh and lively True colours pattern leads the viewer to a wonderful spring after a dark winter, where colors and light are allowed to come in. The True colors pattern is made with acrylic paints, a large brush and a relaxed grip. There are many different colors in the patterns, which all go together beautifully.

Papu Design Sense

The timeless Sense pattern is painted with ink. The black line on the sand-colored background is strong and even masculine, but still human and sensitive. The shapes of the pattern flow in different ways in different clothes thanks to their large scale. Sense designs have modern timelessness and classicity.

Wild Garden, Reka Kiraly

The Wild Garden pattern is about a secret garden of imaginary plants. Plants have special skills: they know how to make music, their petals illuminate in the dark, and their leaves make peaceful thoughts. The secret garden is a place where goodness is empowering and where the moments of the past, the present and the future intertwine, growing into one journey. The Wild Garden pattern is designed by illustrator Reka Király.

Réka Király

Award-winning visual storyteller Réka Király is Papu’s first external pattern designer. She was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1977, and lives and works in Helsinki. Király has been working with children’s culture since 2005 and has continued her independent art activities alongside it. She has had solo and group exhibitions in Finland as well as in several European countries and Japan. Her picture books have been translated into Italian, Spanish, English, Chinese and Korean, among others. Király believes that carefully and playfully made illustrations and objects arouse our curiosity.

When making unique works, Király’s work is meditative. The works show the fragility of the present, fascinating diversity and childlike curiosity. Her works capture the sensitive individualism and uniqueness of people in the form of plants. These portraits are dialogues that show emerging recurring elements in nature. Painting without preplanning is a process where you can’t hide anything.

“Whether it’s a picture book, pattern design, illustration, a unique work or everyday life, drawing is a way of thinking for me. It is my process of understanding this world.” - Reka Király
