CARE ROUTINES BY MATERIAL

In each Papu item, you will find suitable care instructions. We recommend you to always check the care label and to follow the instructions given while taking care of your product. This will guarantee the best possible care for your Papu item and at its best will maintain your beloved item longer.

Here are a few tips for you to take good care of your Papu item:

  • Follow the care instructions above for each material
  • Air your garment if it's not necessarily dirty: please still note that when you have purchased a new Papu garment we recommend washing it before using it, because otherwise some colour may come off during the first use.
  • Treat with love and recycle when not needed anymore!

COTTON KNIT CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions.
  • 30-40 °C normal wash (warm water, 90-110°F).
  • Do not use the fast speed sling! In most of the washing machines, you can adjust the sling speed between 100-1800 rounds per minute.
  • Wash separately from any clothing that can damage the delicate knitwear during the wash (such as items with zippers or Velcro). Put the knitwear into a washing bag if possible.
  • Cotton absorbs moist very well and for that reason, the cotton knit might be quite heavy after a wash. Always dry knitwear flat for example on a laundry rack or on a bathroom floor. You can place a towel under to absorb the moist out of the wool. Remember to choose the towel color by the shades of the clothing: strong colored textiles can run the colors while wet. When your item is almost dry, take the wet towel off. Energy saver tip: use either clean towels that you can use as hand towels afterward or reuse the used face towels that aren’t necessarily dirty.
  • Iron only if necessary and always iron on the wrong side! Energy & time-saving tip: shape the garment while wet.
  • Do not tumble dry. Tumble drying raises the energy consumption very high. Always dry your Papu items naturally. In the Summertime you can dry your clothing outdoors – just remember that the sun rays may fade the colors or make the fibers brittle.
  • Always store the knitwear folded. Hanging the knitwear in hangers might stretch the knitted fabric.

COTTON CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions.
  • 40 °C normal wash (warm water, 90-110°F).
  • 100 % cotton can be washed in 60 °C or even in 95°C. Most of Papu items are made out of 95% cotton and 5% elastane – in this case always follow the instructions and wash in 40 °C.
  • If the 100% cotton clothing is not that dirty, wash always in lower temperatures (such as 40 °C) to save energy.
  • Iron only if necessary and always iron on the wrong side! Energy & time-saving tip: shape the garment while wet. One way to reduce ironing is to hang the garment in a hanger in a bathroom while taking a shower: the steam will sleek the material – no ironing needed!
  • Do not tumble dry. Tumble drying raises the energy consumption very high. Always dry your Papu items naturally. In the Summertime you can dry your clothing outdoors – just remember that the sun rays may fade the colors or make the fibers brittle.
  • Please notice the separate care instructions for cotton knitwear!

COTTON-ELASTANE CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions.
  • 40 °C normal wash (warm water, 90-110°F).
  • Do not use the fabric softener, because it may make the elastane brittle and cause the elastane fibers breaking off. Following this instruction will keep our cotton-elastane blend in a good shape and elongate its lifespan.

LINEN CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions!
  • 40 °C normal wash (warm water, 90-110°F). Linen can be washed also in a higher temperature in 60 °C, but if the garment is not that dirty, wash always in lower temperatures (such as 40 °C) to save energy.
  • Iron only if necessary and always iron on the wrong side! Linen fabric usually wrinkles easily. You can still reduce the ironing by shaping the garment while wet. Straighten carefully all the seams and shape the neckline, sleeves, and hem. One way to reduce ironing is to hang the garment in a hanger in a bathroom while taking a shower: the steam will sleek the material – no ironing needed!
  • Do not tumble dry. Tumble drying raises the energy consumption very high. Always dry your Papu items naturally. In the Summer time you can dry your clothing outdoors – just remember that the sun rays may fade the colors or make the fibers brittle.

LYOCELL CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions.
  • 30 °C delicate wash (cold water, 85°F).
  • Please note that bright and colorful products can also release loose colors when dry, so wash the product with similar colors before use.
  • Lyocell is a sensitive material for stain removers and abrasion, so avoid aggressive substances and abrasion. Wash the entire product when any stains appear.
  • Lyocell may be slightly stiff after washing, but after drying it softens again. Ironing the product from the wrong side with a slight dampness will straighten and soften the material and help restore any shrinkage.
  • Do not soak and leave the product wet in the machine. Lift it immediately to dry.
  • Do not tumble dry. Tumble drying raises the energy consumption very high. Always dry your Papu items naturally. In the Summertime you can dry your clothing outdoors – just remember that the sun rays may fade the colors or make the fibers brittle.

ECOVERO CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions.
  • 40 °C normal wash (warm water, 90-110°F).
  • Please note that bright and colorful products can also release loose colors when dry, so wash the product with similar colors before use.

MERINO WOOL CARE

  • Always check the care label and follow the given instructions!
  • Remember that woolen items do not need regular washing since wool has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties - airing them out is often enough. Simply hang the item outside and it’s fresh again in no time at all. Wool is also a stain resistant: if you spill anything on your knitwear it is most likely to roll off, and what is left is easily wiped off!
  • Most of our merino wool items should be washed in hand wash only. Do not wash the woolen items in hot water. Wash in lukewarm or even a bit colder water to ensure the right temperature appropriate for wool.
  • Remove the stains and air when necessary. Stainless but worn knit can be aired outdoors or washed traditionally in snow as we do in Finland! Wash the woolen items only when they are truly dirty.
  • Always use only the detergents suitable for wool and silk.
  • Dry the woolen items flat for example on a laundry rack or on a bathroom floor.
Usually, woolen items don’t need to be ironed. Energy & time-saving tip: shape the garment while wet.

    • Do not iron.
    • Do not tumble dry.
    • Remember that woolen items do not need regular washing since wool has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Wool is also a stain resistant: if you spill anything on your woolen item it is most likely to roll off, and what is left is easily wiped off with a help of a clean wet cloth!
    • Remove the stains and air when necessary.
